Veteran actor M Emmet Walsh passes away at 88
Renowned character actor M Emmet Walsh, known for his roles in Blade Runner and Blood Simple, died on March 19 in St Albans, Vermont at the age of 88.
His manager informed media outlets that Walsh succumbed to a cardiac arrest at Kerbs Memorial Hospital. The veteran actor had given six decades to stage, television, and cinema.
Some of Walsh’s most popular works include The Jerk, Critters, and My Best Friend’s Wedding. His recent credits include memorable performances in Knives Out and the Emmy-winning series The Righteous Gemstones.
“Walsh featured in over 250 TV shows and 119 movies through his illustrious career,” the statement said. Born in New York, he was raised in rural Vermont and took to acting professionally as M Emmet due to union rules.
Even after turning 50, Hollywood continued giving Walsh engaging roles as seen in over 50 films post that milestone. Renowned critic Roger Ebert had coined the rule that films starring Walsh or Harry Dean Stanton would hold merit.
Walsh is survived by niece Meagan and nephew Kevin, along with grandnephews. He left behind a rich body of work. He consistently delighted audiences with nuanced characterizations throughout his journey.
