Big Four firms ramp up tech architect hiring for India’s GCCs

In a loud message on the ascending centrality of GCCs in India, Business Standard reported that four counsel giants – Deloitte, PwC, EY, and KPMG – are ramping up the recruitment of technology architects.

Technologists are central in developing and administrating the technological structures through which such GCCs subsist. Due to the increasing number of GCCs in India, the employment of professional technical architects has become highly sought after.

The HSBC report has predicted that GCCs in India may amount to 2,550 with a market capitalization of $110 billion by 2030. Presently, approximately 1,600 GCCs in the country have gone through various stages and are now akin to estates that host MNCs’ regional service centers, which provide administrative operations across different fields of business, encompassing IT customer relations, data and document processing, and others.

For instance, Deloitte India presently has over 500 architects, and the outsourcing requirement is estimated at about 20% to 25% for the consultancy’s wired clients. Managers from EY, PwC, and KPMG have also revealed that all these firms are currently recruiting more tech architects to unlock the growing GCC market in the country.

From 2020-21 to 2023-24, EY India’s team managing GCCs and its tech architects has amplified about 3x from 4,200 people to roughly 11,000 people. This trend is not only associated with the growth of GCCs but also with the tendencies of cloud computing solutions adoption and the necessity to solve cybersecurity issues for which existing traditional IT structures must be redesigned.

Considering that more and more companies are being attracted to the Indian economy for establishing their GCCs, the demand for skilled tech professionals, including architects, is likely to sustain in the coming years.
