The Competition Commission of India has invited proposals to conduct a market study on artificial intelligence and competition in the country. As per the CCI release, the deadline for submission is 3rd June 2024. The industry body aims to undertake the exercise to understand the emerging dynamics between AI development ecosystems and competition aspects.
The proposed analysis would focus on key AI systems, their respective markets, major actors and stakeholders, essential resources, value chains, and prevailing market structures.
CCI also wants to examine potential competition issues in these areas and assess the opportunities and risks of AI applications from a competition lens.
The study would focus on understanding existing and evolving legal frameworks for AI in India and other jurisdictions.
CCI intends to engage all relevant AI stakeholders to gain holistic insights on interlinkages between emerging technologies and antitrust matters.
Through this initiative, the regulator seeks to comprehend trends in AI and determine enforcement and advocacy needs concerning AI applied in markets.
The long-term objective is to develop a deeper understanding of the implications of evolving AI systems in important consumer industries for competition, innovation, and efficiency.
Interested agencies and institutions can submit proposals by June 3rd to assist CCI in periodically assessing a dynamic digital market landscape.
