In FY24, the passenger car manufacturers Mahindra and Tata Motors received the highest number of patent approvals.

Mahindra & Mahindra got 674, which was the best ever for them, while Tata Motors also saw 333 patents granted in the fiscal year 2023–24.

Mr. M&M, the CEO of the company, said that so far, the legal department has received a total of 674 patents, which is two times more than the previous year’s total. It adds that the Indian patent office has granted the highest number of them among all the other patent offices.

“We also know the value of taking the lead in what is to come, hence our consistent R&D investment to stay abreast of the latest technology and future talent,” said M&M ED and CEO, Mrs. Rajesh Jejurikar.

The automaker got reinforced thus to 1,185 patent families across a number of countries.

The application portfolio of the company reached 193 on March 31, 2024, which ought to be evaluated for patent approval. It stands out from the competition with its track record, as the brand has so far filed 2,212 patent registrations.

The patents of M&M’s ISOs involve functions like electrics and vehicle mechanics, road systems, manufacturing, tractors, and special engineering.

Tata Motor, in the last fiscal, was also approved with its highest-ever patents, worth 333 of them, making its total patents over 850.

The patent protected the competitive position with 222 filed patents and 117 design applications in the financial year FY24—the highest ever.

The disclosures range from the design of electric cars and IC engines to new processes and triple bottom line issues relating to connectivity, sustainability, and safety.

Besides the basic technologies for which the initial patents were termed, the patents will also cover different vehicle systems, including powertrain, suspension, brakes, and emission control.
