DoT readies ₹96,317 Crore spectrum auction

Recently, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is all set to go on for the sale of $14.3 billion worth of airwaves and quotas from the current fiscal. Nine on Tuesday touched 65 crore as the country awaits the spectrum auction. This decision was made following the approval of the Union Cabinet on a proposal to offer 10,523. 40Megahertz (MHz) of spectrum in different bands.

The next auction will transfer unsold waivers of the previous auction, frequencies of 800, 900, 1800 MHz, 2100, 2300, 2500, 3300, and 26 GHz. The demand was rather high in the last round of the 5G spectrum auctions launched in 2022.

In contrast, in the next bid, the total communication ensured by the three communicator giants, Airtel, Jio, and BSNL, is at a comparatively lower figure of ₹4,350 crore through earnest money deposit (EMD).

Airtel has set its intention to expand its 5G technology in certain circles; Vodafone Idea does not plan to renew spectrum in any circle except for Rajasthan, which has had a detrimental effect on its spectrum renewal cost.

Depending on which calculation you take for the government, revenue expectations from this auction vary from 4,000 crore to as high as 16,600 crore, according to some of the latest brokerage reports.
