Google axes 200 employees in restructuring move, expands workforce abroad

Google, an Alphabet Inc. subsidiary, is affected by what some would term a “layoff” of about 200 employees from the core team as part of the cost-cutting process; this transpires under the process of restructuring.

The statement is that the company wants to move some positions overseas and be able to hire replacements in India and Mexico, for which they have got the documents internally, CNBC, their supervisor said. Around 50 engineer positions are no longer available at Google’s California headquarters.

Still, the layoffs were covered up in the Google Developer Ecosystem mailbox sent by Asim Hussain, who is still connected to the Vice President. While speaking during a town hall, he added that this would be the biggest planned cut at 15 jobs for his team that they have done so far, according to the documents that remained in the company.

In his email, Husain mentioned that the firm tries to keep the same size of its current global network while expanding to some of the most functional and innovation areas, like global workforce locations, to strengthen cooperation with partners and developer communities.

Google, in turn, assured affected employees that they should apply for the positions currently available in the company. The tech company is offering transition services and a severance package for both the workers and the staff who are laid off in this process.

A statement from a Google representative said that the purpose of such a restructuring was to simplify the operations and free staff time by enabling them to focus on innovative projects and the company’s top priorities while reducing the redundancies and layers.

After Google’s parent company, Alphabet, started conducting job cuts in January 2023, the market reacted to a deteriorating economic environment and decreasing revenues in the online advertising area. Earlier, the firm announced restructuring, which included the termination of around 12,000 jobs, equivalent to 6% of its total workers.
