India bets big on AI with $1.35Bn windfall to power startups and supercomputers.

In a massive boost for India’s burgeoning AI dreams, the government unveils a $1.35 billion war chest over five years.

The windfall aims to supercharge startups and research with grants, infrastructure, and talent nurturing. Supercomputing clusters housing thousands of powerful processors will offer innovators cloud-like access.

An innovation center and national management office will streamline efforts. Funding will fully engage budding startups, guiding their ideas from concept to market.

With demand for predictive powers rising across sectors, the push comes as India’s fledgling AI market is forecast to soar over fifteen-fold to $17 billion by 2027.

Yet India currently lags behind global leaders in resources. Just three supercomputers grace our Top 500 versus China’s 162. The infusion targets slashing this gap by fifteen-fold capacity growth.

Private giants have also stepped in, with Microsoft, IBM, and Reliance pumping billions into joint tools. However, experts say public works unlock grassroots potential.

With political will and the right ecosystem in place, can India harness AI to solve pressing problems at scale and reap the rewards of this technological gold rush? Much rides on nurturing talent to forge an indigenous impact.
