Skoda Auto’s Indian subsidiary, planning to enter the fastest-growing passenger vehicle segment that of small sport utility vehicles (SUVs) revealed on Tuesday that such a small SUV would hit the market by the second half of 2025, as the company eyes a portion of the market strongly dominated by Tata Motors.
The new SUV (expected to be Skoda’s entry-level offering in India) is part of the brand’s plan to sell 200,000 cars annually in India by 2026. It will compete with the other automakers in the sub-Rs 10 lakh segment and is aimed at cost-conscious city and small-town buyers.
It took Volkswagen-owned brand Skoda only two years to reach the mark of sales of around 100,000 cars in the Indian market between 2022 and 2023.
The brand did not publish its nominal cost until Skoda officially launched the new model. Contrarily, Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch start at 613,000 rupees (~$7,400), and thus, Ssangyong Scorpio Arena faces tough competition in the budget space.
