Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook revealed the name he has given his group chats with college friends—appropriately named “Roommates.” That shows how close he is to his university buddies after all these years.
Surprisingly, he admitted earlier that he didn’t know naming group chats was an iMessage feature. When he was finally asked what the best name would be for a chat, his face revealed a mixture of surprise, and he began with the statement that he usually doesn’t give them a name.
It was one of those moments when the distance between what technology executives do or even think about and what people generally do with their products or themselves can be great. Later, after the above exchange, he confirmed that he had indeed named his college friends’ chat “Roommates.”
Cook also spoke about his daily tech habits, saying he constantly switches between his MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac, depending on the task. On the go, however, it is all about the iPad Pro. As he explains, devices become very personal rather than just professional tools.
Continuing Apple’s philosophy for success, Cook said, “The key for us is focus,” explaining how saying no to great ideas allows room for even greater ones. This mantra has recently guided much of Apple’s strategic approach to innovations.
