India and UK reaffirm commitment to conclude trade deal during strategic dialogue.
During the annual UK-India Strategic Dialogue in London, both sides reviewed progress in key cooperation areas and reaffirmed work towards a free trade agreement (FTA). Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office Permanent Secretary Philip Barton co-chaired the dialogue.
An FCDO statement said they discussed good progress on the 2022 Roadmap concerning global challenges like malaria vaccines and India’s G20 presidency.
Cooperation on education, science, defense, and migration initiatives under a partnership was also highlighted.
Both reaffirmed negotiating a mutually beneficial FTA and enhancing defense ties while celebrating milestones.
Kwatra also met with British Minister of State for Defense Procurement James Cartlidge to discuss cooperation and avenues for future collaboration in the defense sector.
FCDO Minister for South Asia Tariq Ahmad voiced Britain’s commitment to deepening the strategic partnership in trade, climate, health, and other areas.

Bilateral trade grew over the past year, showcasing strengthening economic engagements between the two key partners. The dialogue assumes significance as FTA negotiations progress towards a conclusion.
