Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, announced major overhauls to its block feature: in the future, all public posts will be able to be viewed by all users on the site, even if those users have been blocked. Musk replied in a thread about removing the current block button that the new block feature will prevent blocked accounts from interacting with users but will not stop them from viewing public posts.
The old system threw a “You’re blocked” message if users attempted to view the profile of a user that had blocked them; they couldn’t see who was following the account, its replies, or who the account was following.
The new policy represents a change of tack, with the company noting that the original system didn’t account for ways in which blocked users could still access posts from those blocking them by looking at the platform while logged into another account or not logged in at all.
Musk has been on record in the past complaining that the block feature doesn’t make sense and that the platform needs a better method to mute certain interactions.
This change comes after X announced that only premium subscribers could livestream on the platform via the official (a)Live profile. The switch to the X domain happened in June this year, signaling new beginnings for the social networking site.
