Zomato reverses ‘Pure Veg’ fleet colour differentiation following feedback

The leader of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal, made a great move after receiving a show of consensus, criticism and “encouragement” on introducing the ‘Pure Veg’ brand of delivery vehicles. Today, Goyal declared that Zomato will not proceed with this plan of green uniforms for the new fleet. Furthermore, Goyal firmly said that Zomato riders will wear their signature red uniforms in the future.

In a social media post, Goyal said,

”We have decided to retain our committed fleet of trucks for vegetarian delivery, but onboarding all the vehicles in the same colour, green, will help to eliminate visual discrimination.”

The fleet that was coloured only in green will now be uniformly red for the regular fleet, and the fleet will cater to customers who prefer a purely vegetarian diet. This change comes just a day after the launch of the “Veg Mode” to cater for the needs of vegetarian customers only. Rakesh Ranjan, whose company runs a digital wallet for e-commerce payments, was accompanied by Goyal, an innovator from the same field, to deliver a few orders to mark the occasion.

Another justification presented by Goyal is that the decision came after the feedback from the users, who expressed that the differentiation may cause some vegetarian consumers to be targeted or looked at closely in their communities and also interfere with the food choice privacy of some individuals.

Promoting rider security is one of our main priorities, which is why the red uniform is the colour of our delivery division. This choice will prevent our delivery providers from being erroneously associated with non-vegetarian meals and protect them from being subject to any obstacles during special occasions from those in charge of the residential welfare associations or societies. The physical safety of our riders will be our main priority.

He stated. He declared,
