This has created a buzz in cricketing circles, and some people did not expect this, as Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian national cricket team. This decision taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) marks the end of Rahul Dravid, who has been the head coach of the team.
Gambhir is yet another World Cup winner, and now the burden of leadership rests on his able shoulders as the team marches ahead under his leadership. He succeeds Dravid, who led the team to the T20 World Cup success in the Caribbean last year. Citing Sharp, Jay Shah, the Secretary of the BCCI, said, “We appreciate and acknowledge the services and hard work of Mr Rahul Dravid and his support staff who have been a part of Team India. ”
The BCCI has also agreed to release Paras Mhambrey, T. Dilip, and Vikram Rathour, allowing Gambhir to assemble a new coach. Two other coaching positions that are likely to attract controversies are the fielding coach position since the legendary South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes is said to be interested, and the assistant coach position, since the former Mumbai Indians assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, might also be interested.
With Gambhir taking over the charge, the emphasis will be on keeping the winning streak going and simultaneously bringing fresh talent to the Indian team. The acronym now gives the mantle to Mr Gautam Gambhir, who will become the head coach for the Sri Lanka series.
