Afghan cricketer Ihsanullah Janat banned 5 Years for code breach

Top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat has been charged for breaching the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and ICC anti-corruption code during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League (KPL), the Afghanistan Cricket Board said on Wednesday.

Janat was thus convicted of Article 2. 1. Clause 1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code; this involves corruptly influencing or attempting to corruptly influence any aspect of a match.

Over this violation, he has been banned for five years from any cricket-related activity and proceedings. Janat has pleaded guilty over the charges and confessed to indulging in corrupt practices, the ACB stated.

Domestic bans take place immediately starting from now until the next five years, for which all forms of satellite television broadcasting will be banned.

This also disclosed that the ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has admitted naming three other players in its list of suspicion for match-fixing, and there are ongoing investigations into them. Their connection with such activities shall be determined once they are convicted, following the confirmation of their guilt.

Janat played in his first pre-elite class cricket for Afghanistan against the Netherlands on 29 July 2016 in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup.

He has played 3 Tests, 16 ODIs, and 1 T20I for Afghanistan, where his total batting experience is 437 runs. He participated in an international match in the T20I series against Zimbabwe in the year 2022.
