Former India head coach Anil Kumble lashed out at India’s 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand on Sunday, November 3. Kumble felt it was about time the Indian team—particularly the top order—took a long, hard look at themselves.
The legendary India spinner and former national team coach slammed the Rohit Sharma side after losing the home series against New Zealand 3-0. The third and final Test match in Mumbai saw India losing by 25 runs, as Aja Patel ran through the Indian batting on Sunday.
Speaking on Jio Cinema after the series ended, Kumble said that it was time for India to take a long, hard look at themselves ahead of the tour of Australia. “Particularly the top-order batters, you know, the fact that Indian batters are not surviving one session is a massive cause for concern,” he slammed.
“I think it’s about time. If it were not even before the start of this test match, it certainly would be something that India needs to respect and then, you know, understand what kind of surfaces you need to play on as well. You know, I think we spoke about it even in Pune before the start of the Test match itself.
It was a spin to win. But it certainly gave New Zealand a chance to come out there and do what they have done exceptionally well. I mean, kudos to them,” Kumble said on Jio Cinema.
