Appointment of new BCCI secretary not on agenda as Jay Shah eyes ICC role

The BCCI Apex Council meets on Wednesday to discuss a wide range of issues related to the Board’s functioning, but it needs to add a new secretary in place of the outgoing Jay Shah to its agenda.

The BCCI Apex Council will meet on Wednesday to discuss various issues concerning the Board’s functioning, but the appointment of a new secretary to replace the outgoing Jay Shah is not on the agenda.

It will be the last apex council meeting before the Board’s 93rd Annual General Meeting in Bengaluru in five days.

The appointment of a new secretary was urgent, as Shah’s election as the next ICC chairman was unanimous.

However, he will not leave his present position as BCCI Secretary since he will take over his new job only on December 1.

But even a discussion on the nomination process is not among the eight items listed in the apex council’s agenda, which includes the update on Byju’s matter.

The BCCI has a payment settlement issue with their former title sponsor.

The embattled ed-tech firm ended its sponsorship deal with the BCCI in March last year.

A Bengaluru-based company co-founded by Byju Raveendran signed a three-year jersey sponsorship deal in March 2019 for three years, which has since been extended for a year, reportedly for USD 55 million.

Payments were made until September 2022, but controversy arose from unpaid dues between October 2022 and March 2023.
