Arrest warrant issued for ex-cricketer Robin Uthappa in fraud case

An arrest warrant was issued against former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa in connection with Provident Fund fraud. The warrant, issued by PF Regional Commissioner Shadakshari Gopal Reddy, directed the Pulakeshinagar police to take necessary action against Uthappa.

Uthappa, managing Centuries Lifestyle Brand Private Limited, allegedly deducted PF contributions from employees’ salaries but never deposited the collected amounts with the PF Department. His oversight has led to reported fraud of ₹23 lakh.

In a letter dated December 4, Commissioner Reddy instructed the police to execute the warrant. However, the warrant was returned to the PF office, as Uthappa is believed to have shifted and is no more staying at his previous address. Officials said, “The warrant issued on December 4 has been returned after Mr. Uthappa was found not to be at the Pulakeshinagar residence.”

Sources say Uthappa and his family members have been residing in Dubai for the past several years. The warrant states that by not paying the PF dues, the PF office has not been able to settle accounts pertaining to the workers who have to be benefited. The warrant instructs the police to trace and arrest Uthappa and return the warrant before December 27.

Uthappa played 59 internationals for India and made valuable contributions during his career, making 1,183 runs in 54 ODI innings with seven half-centuries. In the IPL, he played for KKR, RCB, and Mumbai Indians. He was part of the victorious KKR squad in 2014 and was recognized as an attacking batsman.

Authorities are actively working to trace Uthappa’s whereabouts to advance the investigation and ensure compliance with legal proceedings.
