Assessing Joe Root’s challenge to Sachin Tendulkar’s record

England batter Joe Root is gradually climbing the top list of batting averages and run totals in Test cricket and has almost overtaken the great master blaster of India Sachin Tendulkar. Before we go further, let us consider their statistics at different points in their career.

This has seen Joseph Root be on a serious rampage in Test cricket lately, and he quickly moved up the ladder in the world of Test cricket’s leading run scorer list.

He has scored 12,402 runs in the longest format of the game, and having played 146 matches (267 innings) at an average of 50, the 33-year-old is currently the sixth-highest run scorer in cricket’s oldest format. It was 62 positions, with 34 being hundreds of and 48 being fifties.

He also is the sixth highest scorer of hundreds in test cricket, as he steadily rises up on a list of legends of the game, including Sunil Gavaskar, Alastair Cook, Brian Lara, and Ricky Ponting, to name but a few.

Before 2020, Root did not seem as monumental as he is today, having 7823 runs at an average of 47 from 97 Tests of his career totals. Nine is nineteen with seventeen hundred and forty-nine fifties.

Before that, he was fairly ordinary, but since 2021, the man is the best batter in the format, revealing 4579 runs from 49 matches or 90 innings at a rate of 55. It hit 84, with 17 hundred and 15 fifty plus scores.

Root has been an icon in the game with his fabulous run, making him the potential contender for the record-holder of most scores in the Test matches than Sachin Tendulkar.
