Australian legend warns other boards after BCCI’s strict disciplinary moves

BCCI’s Strict New Guidelines Spark Concerns from Australian Great Ian Healy.

The recent 10-point non-cricket guidelines introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have caught the attention of Australian cricket legend Ian Healy, who sees it as a “reshaping of Indian cricket” and an admission that the board has “let discipline of their national team slip badly.”

The new BCCI guidelines address several off-the-field and disciplinary matters, including mandatory availability for domestic cricket, restrictions on player travel and time with families during tours, and a ban on personal managers or assistants staying in the team hotel.

These measures were implemented after reports of dressing room unrest following India’s 1-3 loss to Australia in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Healy, who represented Australia in 119 Tests and 168 ODIs between 1988 and 1999, believes that other cricket boards should take note of the issues faced by the BCCI and remain vigilant to prevent a similar situation.

He said, “It made for extraordinary reading that the following issues could go unapproved for so long. Maybe administrators and players have disrespected the dream of representing a powerhouse of the sport.” Healy cautioned that “Australia – plus other countries – be aware of how far things can get off the rails without noticing the effects.

Take all that into the contest.” He sees the BCCI’s actions as a “strict, strong response from Indian cricket authorities admitting they have let discipline of their national team slip badly.”

The BCCI’s new guidelines come in the wake of India’s top batters failing miserably in the last eight Tests, leading to six losses against New Zealand and Australia.

The board’s move to address these issues has drawn attention from the cricketing world, with Healy’s comments highlighting the need for other boards to be proactive in maintaining discipline within their national teams.
