Bangladesh achieve a historic test victory over Pakistan

Pakistan, dominating the first day lost the plot as Bangladesh won the first Test of the ongoing two-match series by 10 wickets at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday (August 25).

The side led by Najmul Hossain Shanto successfully chased 30 runs in 6. 3 overs, losing no wicket to clinch the first ever Test victorious against the Pakistani team after 14 matches. The visitors scored a useful 117-run lead in the first inning, and in the second session of the fifth day’s play, they reduced the hosts to 146 runs for the second time.

For Bangladesh, spin bowler Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 4 for 21 runs in 11.5 overs, and all three Pakistani batsmen were bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan, who bowling economically gave away 44 runs in 17 overs.

Besides bonuses such as leading 1-0 in the series, Bangladesh also moved to the joint-fifth place in the WTC 2023-25 points table after this result. On the other hand, Pakistan has now been placed at the second last in the tournament following its defeat in all four Test matches, which were conducted under the captaincy of Shan Masood.

In the historic victory against Pakistan in the Test Series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the expectations of senior batsman Mushfiqur Rahim were high, while spin bowling all-rounder Mehidy played a significant part.

Ex-captain Rahim was the highest run-getter for the visitors with 191 runs in the first innings, whereas Mehidy fought with an unbeaten 77 in the first innings and claimed a total of five wickets in the match, of which four were in the second innings.

Besides, opener Shadman Islam scored 93, former skipper Mominul Haque got 50, and wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das secured 56 in the first innings for the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side.
