BCCI considers Morne Morkel as India’s bowling coach

Recently, Gautam Gambhir was appointed the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Now, BCCI is preparing to finalize all the other members of the support staff.

According to newspaper reports, some of the well-known personalities being allegedly considered for the bowling coach post by the BCCI are Zaheer Khan, Lakshmipathy Balaji, and R Vinay Kumar. But the latest news is that Gambhir has asked the BCCI to also consider former South African pacer Morne Morkel for the position.

According to the Indian website Cricbuzz, the BCCI has already spoken to Morkel. Morkel was a great international cricketer for the South African team and played 86 Test matches, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is. Notably, Morkel was Pakistan’s bowling coach during the ODI World Cup in India the previous year, but he had to resign from his post even before the expiry of his contract.

Gambhir and Morkel have been associated with the same franchise, the Lucknow franchise in the IPL known as LSG. Although Gambhir has later moved to Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor, Morkel, on the other hand, remained with LSG after getting appointed under the new head coach, Justin Langer.
