The Indian men’s cricket team is seeking a new head coach after the BCCI issued its notification of a coaching position seven days before the deadline will expire. As per updates, former India player Gautam Gambhir is on the favoured list to be the candidate for the next chief selector in place of Rahul Dravid.
Former India cricketer Gambhir is expected to be in Bcci irrespective of being already associated kkr as the franchise’s mentor in ipl. In addition to Gambhir, the board is said to be mulling over several IPL coaches, including Stephen Fleming, currently with CSK, Justin Langer, currently Lewkno Super Giants; Mahela Jayawardene, currently Director of Cricket, MI.
To this end, the BCCI’s operations team has apparently pitched to Gujarat Titans head coach and former India fast bowler Ashish Nehra; however, he is said to have shied away from accepting the offer because of the extensive efforts it entails.
The BCCI is in a sticky situation regarding hiring senior potential candidates, as the chances are that IPL Franchises will give the BCCI tough competition to bring the candidate on board.
Furthermore, the same is in line with the fact that the candidates are not sure about being on the road with the team for 10 months in a year until the ODI World Cup of 2027.
However, this did not discourage the management of the BCCI from offering Gambhir their full support and considering holding talks with the cricketer soon.
