BCCI reshuffles coaching staff for India’s Sri Lanka tour

Upcoming T20Is and the ODI series between India and Sri Lanka are on the horizon, and the BCCI is offering the Indian cricket team a new coach. Citing a report from Cricbuzz, the two upcoming assistant coaches that BCCI plans to hire are Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate, who will join the newly appointed head coach, Gautam Gambhir.

Although no official statement has been released by the team management, the report states that Nayar and Ten Doeschate will make their debut in the Indian team during the Sri Lanka tour. Nayar was associated with Kolkata Knight Riders as an assistant coach, and Ten Doeschate is an ex-Dutch international who has worked as a Fielding coach in the KKR team.

According to the report the fielding coach T Dilip who was formerly in the team under Rahul Dravid is expected to carry forward to the new support staff. Morkel was also part of the Langer’s coaching staff during the Australian summer, and Crane was quoted saying ‘he (Morkel) was one of the contenders for the bowling coach job.

Gambhir failed in his bid to become the head coach of Delhi Capitals as Australian Ricky Ponting was appointed to the hot seat.

However, Morkel, who has worked with the new head coach in the past, played under the former Indian opener and KKR skipper between 2014 and 2016. BCCI is reported to be in talks with Morkel about offering him the bowling coach position; however, the decision has yet to be finalized.

The report also reveals that Dilip and Nayar will accompany the team to Sri Lanka; however, it was not clear when Ten Doeschate will arrive because he is occupied with the LA Knight Riders as the coaching staff for the MLC.

Venturing on the Sri Lanka tour, the BCCI has been reinventing the Indian team’s support personnel, which currently includes new assistant coaches and, according to certain reports, a new bowling coach in the near future.
