BCCI secretary backs Rohit Sharma to lead India to WTC, Champions Trophy glory

Current BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has to come out today to say that Rohit Sharma will remain captain for the upcoming WTC final and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Shah’s comments come as India clinched the ICC trophy for the 2024 T20 World Cup after the men in blue had not tasted an international trophy for the past 11 years. The BCCI secretary highly appreciated the Indian cricket team’s performance and said the historic achievement was a triumph for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and the head coach, Rahul Dravid.

In a video recording, Shah said with utter surety: “I believe with the increasing formality of Rohit Sharma, we will be lifted along with the WTC Final along with the Champions Trophy.” The Pakistan Cricket Board said last month that the 2025 Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in February, while the WTC final will be held at Lord’s, London, next year.

India currently occupies the top of the WTC table thanks to six victories out of nine games, including a quite impressive 68. The home team has won or aggregated 52 percent of the points. Shah also thanked Surya Kumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya for their brilliant T20 World Cup final against South Africa, which India more than won by seven runs.

However, with the generation change coming to practice in the Indian team, Dravid preparing for a replacement from the head coach position, and Kohli and Jadeja, among others, retiring from T20Is, the next challenges are on.

Shah’s confidence in Rohit Sharma as the captain for India will definitely add to the morale of the team, especially as they begin their quest to retain the WTC and clinch the much-desired Champions Trophy.
