BCCI shuffles Duleep Trophy squads: Jadeja Rested, Siraj and Malik out

BCCI announces three changes to Duleep Trophy first-round squads as the domestic red-ball season draws nearer.

Interestingly, India’s experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been let go from the Team B list, is missing from the list. The decision to bench Jadeja is good, especially now that the BCCI is looking to rotate the players due to the important Test series that will feature Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia.

Fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik, who are unfit due to Illness, will leave Jadeja off the playing XI. They will be available only for the next round. The BCCI is confident that the duo will be fit for the remaining games of the tournament in South Africa. However, the selectors have included Navdeep Saini in place of the injured Shami and Gaurav Yadav in place of Saha.

The Duleep Trophy, scheduled to start on September 5, will go a long way in helping BCCI select the perfect team for the Test matches. The tournament will enable selectors to consider the ability and fitness of the domestic players who may forge the national team’s roster for the series against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia.

Navdeep Saini was included in the Team B squad, and this will count as a future prospect to make a comeback in the Lol. The fast bowler will aspire to prove his worth while being part of India’s playing XI, with an emphasis on regaining the position he last held in the historic tour of Australia in 2020/21.

On the other hand, the 20-year-old Madhya Pradesh-born seamer Gaurav Yadav, who came into the limelight in the recent Ranji Trophy season, has been included in Team C. He took a total of 41 wickets with a bowling average of 14. 58 has made him deserving of this call-up, and he will be willing to produce his best for the Duleep Trophy.

It’s a cause for positive thinking then that as the domestic season starts, the BCCI has thought it proper to make such changes in the Duleep Trophy squads, which, in a way, must have been direly required to rest with the organization’s task of building up a potent foyer of talents and guaranteeing the factor of the national team.
