Indian team management will reportedly take the final call regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 on February 11, with the fitness of the pacer spearhead still uncertain ahead of the returning ICC event.
Jaspit Bumrah has recently had his back scanned at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and a final decision will be made with the work of the Indian selectors.
The fast-bowler was named in India’s 15-man provisional squad for the tournament and hasn’t featured in the first two ODIs against England as well. Additionally, the report states that he was to feature in the last match in Ahmedabad but the pacer has flown back to Bengaluru.
While Bumrah led the team in the final Test against Australia in Sydney, he did pick up a niggle on his back, which saw him not being able to bowl in the second innings of the match. There could be a huge blow that comes in for the team going into the ICC event.
For replacement, it would be interesting to see whether the Delhi lad, Harshit Rana, takes up the place of Bumrah. He played the first two ODIs against England. He showed a promising start for his ODI career when he faced hammering from runs in the initial overs of his bowling. However, then he took the game forward with three wickets in the 1st ODI which took place at Nagpur.
