BCCI’s Hunt for India’s next coach attracts AB de Villiers’s interest

As the Indian Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) inches closer to finalizing a new coach for the Indian national team, more attention is being directed toward the former South African captain AB de Villiers.

The South African, who has established a glittering playing career, has stated that while he thinks he would enjoy aspects of coaching, he’s not sure it is something that he wants to do at the moment.

I believe this is the perfect definition for me: I have no idea. On that note, I do believe that I will also like coaching. There are some things I know I would not find as fun and engaging as before, which I would have to learn. Over some time, everything is possible, and that is why one can reason on the field and grow from there on,”

The BCCI’s search for Rahul Dravid’s successor is inevitable as the veteran is bound to lead the team until the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

At the same time, the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, Justin Langer, listened to the words of the Indian captain, KL Rahul, choosing not to take advantage of the vacancy for the post of head coach of the Indian team.

As pointed out by Langer, the act of coaching the Indian national team comes with a lot of pressure and politic, as Rahul recommended.

“It would be an amazing job, [but] I have probably [ruled myself out of contention]. You never say never,” Langer said on BBC’s Stumped podcast.

“I was having a chat with KL Rahul recently and he told me, ‘You know, if you think there’s pressure and politics in an IPL side, multiply it by a thousand, that’s coaching India’. I think that was pretty good advice, to be honest. It would be a fantastic role, but not one for me at the current time.” said Langer.

Indian cricket boards’ search for a new head coach will come under the microscope because the Indian team will have to aim higher and better prepare for the big events.
