In a dramatic upheaval in cricket dynamics worldwide, BCCI secretary Jay Shah is said to be the favorite to succeed Greg Barclay and become the next ICC chairman. As many sources point out, Shah has secured the support of many cricket boards, including England and Australia, strengthening his candidature for this prestigious post.
In order to gain the nomination, the ICC needs a proposer and seconder, and it seems that the above-mentioned giants are willing to support Shah’s candidature. This would enable the 36-year-old Shah to become the youth ICC chairman, succeeding other Indians who have held this position in the past.
For now, Shah is the director appointed by BCCI to the ICC and also heads the ICC’s F&CA subcommittee, which is among the most powerful formations within the ICC. His ability to lead in these positions, together with sound international support, puts him in a good position to steer the ICC in the future.
The outgoing chairman of the ICC, Greg Barclay, is not interested in re-election, and Shah may get a chance to come on top. According to the ICC rules, each of the 16 current ICC directors needs to nominate their own nominees before August 27 to be the chairman.
