The Indian cricket team has announced an updated squad for the highly-anticipated 5th and final Test against England starting March 1st in Dharamsala.
Making a welcome return is pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, after being rested for the 4th Test to manage his workload. Bumrah’s sheer speed and ability to nail yorkers will bolster India’s bowling attack. He is likely to replace debutant Akash Deep in the starting eleven.
However, India has suffered a blow with opener KL Rahul ruled out due to a nagging right quad injury. Rahul is in London consulting specialists. His absence leaves a gap at the top, with Rajat Patidar or 22-year-old lefty Devdutt Padikkal potential debutants. Patidar has struggled in his chances so far.
In other squad news, off-spinner Washington Sundar has been released to represent Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals. With Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep in the mix, Sundar was unlikely to feature anyway.
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has undergone successful surgery on his troublesome right heel and will rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru.
With the series poised at 3-1 in India’s favor, Virat Kohli’s men will be keen to round off the series with a win. Bumrah’s return gives the bowling attack more teeth as they look to finish in style.
