BWSSB to Supply Treated Water to M Chinnaswamy Stadium Amid Bengaluru Water Crisis for IPL 2024

BWSSB to supply treated water at M Chinnaswamy stadium for IPL 2024.

Amidst the ongoing water crisis in Karnataka, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has decided to provide treated water for use at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

RCB will host three matches at their home ground within the first two weeks of the 2024 edition of the IPL. In light of the city’s prevailing water shortage, the BWSSB held discussions with the Karnataka State Cricket Association.

It has been reported that around 75,000 liters of water will be required daily to facilitate match activities like pitch preparation and sprinkling. To prevent overexploitation of groundwater resources and ensure reasonable utilization, the BWSSB will transport water from its Cubbon Park sewage treatment plant.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasad Manohar said the board is committed to optimal water management and conservation. He added that supplying treated water for cricket is in line with efforts to save every drop.

The Karnataka CM has previously stated that Bengaluru faces a deficit of 500 MLD compared to the 2600 MLD needed daily. By providing recycled water for the matches, the BWSSB aims to ease pressure on existing supplies and promote optimal resource allocation.
