Controversy Erupts as Imad Wasim Smokes in PSL Final in Dressing Room

Imad Wasim in soup after being caught smoking post-PSL final heroics

PSL champions Islamabad United’s star all-rounder Imad Wasim had a day to remember and forget in the final against Multan Sultans. The left-arm spinner bagged a stunning five-wicket haul that laid the foundation for United’s narrow win. Wasim’s figures of 5/23 restricted Sultans to a below-par 159 despite fifties from Yasir Khan and David Willey.

However, soon after his match-winning display, the celebratory mood turned sour for Wasim. Lensmen clicked him smoking inside the opponent’s dressing room even as the thrilling final concluded on the field.

The videos of the smoking episode did rounds on social media, inviting sharp criticism for the 31-year-old given sports’ stand on tobacco use. Wasim would hope to let his cricket talk after this unwelcome controversy.

Earlier, United captain Shadab Khan’s fifty nearly sealed it before tensions reached a nervy conclusion. Khan lauded the owners’ consistency in backing him despite previous near-misses.

Wasim, too, spoke of cherishing the momentous triumph and hoped to have more imprints after signalling his intent with the ball. But he has some explaining to do on the unseemly pictures that emerged after that and dented the shine of an otherwise stellar outing.
