Controversy surrounding Haris Rauf incident: Rizwan’s tweet sparks backlash

Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan‘s show of support for teammate Haris Rauf has ignited a social media storm, drawing criticism from Indian fans.

The incident unfolded following Pakistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, where Rauf was involved in a confrontation with fans outside the team hotel.

Rauf, visibly upset, approached a fan in a blue T-shirt amidst attempts by his wife to intervene. The altercation reportedly stemmed from disrespectful comments made by the fan, leading Rauf to emphasize, “Tera India nahi hai yeh (This is not your India),” despite the individual’s claims of being Pakistani.

Rizwan, among several former and current Pakistani players to voice support for Rauf, took to social media.

However, his message condemning disrespect towards players, regardless of nationality, triggered a backlash from Indian fans.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, strongly condemned the incident, urging the fan involved to apologize to Rauf or face potential legal action. Meanwhile, Rauf asserted his right to defend his family against disrespect, amidst the ongoing public scrutiny.
