CSK’s Matthew Hayden and Irfan Pathan Criticize Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Captaincy

Hayden and Pathan question Gaikwad’s captaincy after CSK’s loss.

Former stars Matthew Hayden and Irfan Pathan have provided critical feedback on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy following Chennai Super Kings’ defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

On a TV broadcast, Hayden highlighted missed team selection and tactics opportunities. He pointed out Moeen Ali should have batted higher instead of waiting for a late cameo.

The Aussie legend also believed Maheesh Theekshana could have bowled the opening over against Travis Head, rather than being held back until the fourth over when the batsman was set.

Pathan echoed similar views during commentary, suggesting Theekshana be used upfront to get the advantage with the new ball while also presenting a different challenge to Mukesh Choudhary.

Hayden observed captaincy pressures may be affecting Gaikwad’s decision-making. He has big shoes to fill following MS Dhoni‘s leadership era.

While CSK started well under the young captain, two straight losses have revealed doubts about some aspects of his game reading. The team finds itself in third spot.

It remains to be seen how Gaikwad responds to feedback from respected mentors as he continues his grooming process at the helm of a star-studded franchise.
