Cummins vows to capture border-Gavaskar trophy against India

Many will agree that Pat Cummins has been central in Australia’s recent victories in the ICC championships. Starting from 2023, the Australian team has become the most successful on the examining parameters, having conquered the ODI World Cup and the WTC. However, there is one prize that has not been ‘gained’ – The Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As the Australian cricket team prepares for a five-match Test series against India later in this year, KA Cummins has put the Indian cricket team on the notice.

Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in 2014/15. India has won the previous two series played in Australia and is now confident of making it three in a row.

Cummins, who led Australia to the ICC World Test Championship and ICC ODI World Cup 2023 champions, both against India, also understood that winning the Border-Gavaskar trophy remains on the list of the dreams of many players. But he said he is optimistic about the team when they are playing in their backyard.

“That is the one trophy many players of our group have not got. Yes, we have done a lot as the Test team in the last two or three years; we trust ourselves to beat every team at home and try to be amongst the best four in the world. That is why we are targeting this trophy,” added the revised 31-year-old fast bowler Safwan Alam.

Although admitting that India was a good side, Cummins stated that Australia had all it took to compete and even dominate in the upcoming series.

“They’re actually a good side which we often confront and have a good understanding of, but we think we’re equally well placed,” he said.

The long-awaited cricket series of the Trans-Tasmanian rivals Australia and India is going to start on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth, with other tests in Adelaide,
