Debate on MS Dhoni’s future sparks viral video controversy

An argument about MS Dhoni’s IPL career led to a heated discussion among former Indian cricketers – Suresh Raina, Sanjay Bangar, RP Singh, and Aakash Chopra.

While the Chennai Super Kings readied themselves for their last match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season against the Gujarat Titans, an argument regarding MS Dhoni’s future also raged. During the pre-match telecast, ex-Indian cricketers Suresh Raina, Sanjay Bangar, RP Singh, and Aakash Chopra debated whether the legendary wicket-keeper batter should retire now.

While RP and Raina were ‘against’ the idea of retirement, Chopra and Bangar argued ‘for’. The debate, however, became a fiery one, with some serious arguments being presented by both groups.

Dhoni appeared a bit hesitant to bat this season for CSK, stepping out at times even at the No. 8 position, pushing the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja ahead of him. While Raina and RP indicated that it was done to give others a chance to thrive, Chopra and Bangar questioned whether Dhoni was even fit to bat for as long.

Suresh Raina: He prefers being in the last four overs. He’s fit, wicketkeeping at 44 years of age. He gave an interview in between and stated that a team for the World Cup (T20) is being formed, so he wishes to provide opportunities to others like Shivam Dube.

RP Singh: He is going to take time after knee surgery. All players do. He has been keeping for 20 years and takes care of himself. Raina had a knee surgery as well. He took care of himself for a while and healed eventually.
