Dharamsala dust bowl: India’s spinners dream of a series whitewash

The stage is set for the final test between India and England in Dharamsala. While rain initially affected preparations, the ground staff worked tirelessly to get the pitch and outfield in order.

Curators are mulling the type of surface to present for the match. Familiar territory for England, another turning track could assist India’s spinners – proving a difference maker in their series comeback after the first test defeat.

Captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid will be delighted if conditions aid spin. It has contributed to victories in the past three encounters, putting them in a prime position ahead of the finale.

While dampness lingered Monday, the outfield now appears pristine. Recent events have prompted improvements at the scenic HPCA Stadium. An Australia test was lost to rain in March, highlighting the need for contingency measures.

Continued hosting of ICC and domestic games means Dharamsala should avoid past criticism. Preparations are in full swing to give the series a memorable sign-off, with over 5,000 English fans expected to cheer their team’s challenge.

Meanwhile, Rohit and Rahul’s schedule includes an engagement in Bilaspur district. Along with Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, formerly of the BCCI, they will launch the Khel Mahakhumbh sporting extravaganza.

Various competitions, including cricket, football, and athletics, will run in the lead-up to the test. Local BJP representative Narendra Atri outlined excitement for the events at Luhnu Ground.

Posters around the HPCA Stadium showcase welcome messages for Thakur and IPL boss Arun Dhumal. After a solo practice on Monday, India will tune up further on the HPCA track from Tuesday as they aim to wrap up a series victory.
