Chennai: Dinesh Karthik has slammed Tamil Nadu coach Sulakshan Kulkarni for publicly blaming captain Sai Sudarshan after their Ranji semifinal defeat to Mumbai.
Kulkarni said opting to bat first on a green pitch cost TN the match. But Karthik feels throwing the skipper under the bus is wrong.
Tamil Nadu were bundled out for 146 and lost by an innings despite Sai leading them to their first semis in 7 years.
Rather than supporting the captain who revived fortunes, Kulkarni has “thrown him and team under the bus,” said an irate Karthik.
The former India keeper lashed out at the “disappointing” comment. A captain ushering revival doesn’t deserve scapegoating, he stated.
Mumbai rode on Shardul’s ton to a big lead and victory. But Karthik maintains the coach should shield, not blame his captain at this juncture.
His stand signifies the crucial role of management in team building. Only unity instead of division can help TN progress from here on.
