Dinesh Karthik sets IPL 2024 death overs record

D. Karthik, the man in form, has broken the record in the latter [IPL] edition. On the Punjab Kings’ score against him, Karthik attained the highest strike rate in the match’s closing over (17-20 overs), while the previous highest run-scorer was at this phase.

What underpinned the victory was his flaming scoop of 28 in 10, 4, and 2 sixes amongst his fours – which redefined speed as RCB won this thrilling match by four wickets. Karthik’s strike rate during the game was also fantastic, amounting to 280. He does so between the 15th and 20th over of the given match, a role that comes just second to Shimron Hetmyer of the RR with a strike rate of 203.27 from the last 10 overs of the extensively followed IPL 2022.

The game was staged at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and indeed, an exciting duel between the clubs was played. PBKS posted a modest total of 176/6 off their 20 overs, but RCB, led by the captain’s (Kohli) stellar knock of 77 runs and the partnership of Dinesh Karthik in the chase, were able to find the target with only 3 balls to spare. The second IPL in 2022 remains an ideal platform that features the incredible flair Karthik puts into each of his matches and will live in the IPL history forever.
