Dravid reflects on India’s lowest Point during Kohli transition

Save for the final match defeat in the ODI World Cup, Rahul Dravid selected the lowest point of his career as the first assignment with the Indian team.

Rahul Dravid, when he assumed the head coach’s position of the men’s cricket team, led his team to as many as three ICC trophy finals.

As in the previous measures, more disappointments in trying against Australia both in the World Test Championship final and in the 50-over ODIs World Cup, he finished his reign with success as India won the T20 World Cup title in Barbados in June 2023, aside from being the Asia Cup winner earlier in 2023.

But when David did have success, he also suffered some disappointments too.

The following subdivisions explain this in more detail. Which, of course, was India’s only loss in that tournament; the ODI World Cup final at home was expected to top that list, but the 51-year-old instead selected the lowest point of his tenure as the opening assignment with the team.

India handed him the reins of the country’s team in October 2021, after yet another disappointing T20 World Cup where the team was knocked out in the initial stages; he replaced Ravi Shastri in this role.

The side was going through a major transition during an off-field crisis in Indian cricket as Virat Kohli, who had resigned from T20I captaincy post-World Cup, was now relieved of the captaincy in the 50-over format by then BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly.

The board’s call led to a war of words between the two giants of Indian cricket, and the Indian team finds itself in a vulnerable position; they are heading for a three-match Test series in South Africa.
