Dwayne Bravo named KKR mentor for IPL 2025, succeeds Gambhir

Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been named the new mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2025, a season after Gautam Gambhir took charge of the team. Gambhir returned to KKR in IPL 2024, the first since 2017, and led the Shreyas Iyer-led side to its third title.

Bravo, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after his recent engagement in the CPL on September 26, will join KKR as he parted ways with Chennai Super Kings, where he had served as a bowling coach.

Reacting to his appointment to the new role, Bravo said,

“I have been a part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last decade in the CPL and have immense respect for how the Knight Riders do things. The owners’ passion, the management’s professionalism, and a family-like environment. This is a perfect platform for me as I change gear into the role of mentor and coaching the next set of players.”.

Bravo’s outstanding T20 career includes 582 matches, 631 wickets, and close to 7,000 runs, making him one of the most successful players in the format. His vast experience is expected to benefit KKR immensely.

Commenting on the appointment, Knight Riders Group CEO Venky Mysore said, “DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development for us. His winning mentality, immense experience, and deep cricketing knowledge will be invaluable to our franchise and players. We are delighted that Bravo will also be a part of our other global franchises in CPL, MLC, and ILT20.”

Bravo comes in for Gambhir, who has moved out as mentor following his appointment as the head coach of the Indian team in July. Gambhir’s second coming for KKR had fetched them another IPL title to add to the two he had won as captain.
