Elevated security for India-Pakistan clash at ICC T20 WC in NY

Security beefed up for high-profile India-Pakistan T20 WC clash in New York.

The much-awaited cricket clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup is set to take place on June 9th at Eisenhower Park Stadium in New York. According to reports, security has been heightened at the venue following threats to the high-profile game.

Governor Kathy Hochul stated that while there is no credible threat at present, the situation is being closely monitored. As a precaution, she has directed the New York State Police to increase security measures, which include boosted police presence, advanced surveillance, and stringent screening processes.

The Governor underscored that public safety is the top priority and ensuring a safe experience for fans and players alike. While the ESPNCricinfo report mentioned unverified threat inputs, authorities did not find corroborative evidence during the investigation.

Notwithstanding, the ICC has maintained that security arrangements will be robust across all venues as the tournament progresses in the USA and West Indies.

In a statement, the ICC spokesperson affirmed that the safety of everyone involved remains the foremost concern. “We work closely with host country administrations and continuously assess risks to implement appropriate security plans,” the statement read.

The high-voltage India-Pak clash is among eight matches scheduled at the Eisenhower Park venue from June 3rd to 12th. India has landed in New York and commenced practice.

However, Virat Kohli has been given a break after his exploits in the IPL and is yet to join the squad. Earlier, the ICC and Cricket West Indies ensured that spectators and athletes would have a safe experience during the global event.
