England star pacer ruled out of West Indies ODI series

To fill in for Jofra Archer’s non-availability, 29-year-old Lancashire left-arm seamer Luke Wood has been announced as his replacement in the team. England paceman Jofra Archer has been excluded from the series against the West Indies starting next week with a right thumb injury, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday, May 21.

The injury is another infuriating setback for 30-year-old pacer Archer, who has struggled with a series of injuries over the past few years. Archer was also left out of the England team to play the solitary Test against Zimbabwe that was named earlier this month.

To replace Archer, the ECB has added 29-year-old Lancashire left-arm seamer Luke Wood as his cover in the team. Wood, who has impressed despite limited chances with his speed and flexibility, will try to take advantage of this opportunity on home turf.

Wood has last appeared in the Pakistan Super League for his team, Peshawar Zalmi with 11 wickets from eight innings. At the same time, Archer will be re-examined by England’s medical staff to decide when he may resume competition. England’s first match against the West Indies is on May 29 at Edgbaston.
