Gambhir addresses first press conference as Indian cricket team head coach

Speaking for the first time after being appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir answered many questions with transparency and sincerity. One of the most frequent questions was about him and his bonding with the team’s captain, Virat Kohli.

Dismissing any apprehension regarding the distance that might have developed between Kohli and the coach, Gambhir said that the duo has professional rapport, which is their business.

‘Good for the TRP, but my relation is not TRP; what kind of relation I have with Virat Kohli is that we share a mature, grown-up understanding. ’

Gambhir stressed that while out in the middle, both of them would be in Indian colors, and their sole aim would be to make the country proud. During match play, I have repeatedly stated that any player has the right to fight for his team.

His number is on the back of the shirt, and he desires to be back in the winning dressing room. But at this moment, we are representing India and its 140 crore people. I am sure that we have to be on the same page and try to make India proud.

The former Indian opener also named the coaching staff for the Sri Lanka tour. Gambhir will be the team’s Head Coach, Abhishek Nayar the Assistant, and Sairaj Bahutule will travel as the Interim Bowling Coach.

As for the support staff, T Dilip, the current fielding coach, will remain in the same position, and Ryan ten Doeschate will probably be included as a new member of the team side in Colombo.
