Interacting with the media on Monday, Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian men’s team, will speak just a few days before the team is involved in the important white-ball series in Sri Lanka.
This schedule will allow Gambhir to explain what he has in mind concerning the team to which he will be captain for the first time. The former cricketer, who used to be a commentator, was appointed as the new head coach earlier this month following Rahul Dravid’s resignation. However, he led the T20 team to a World Cup triumph in June.
The first assignment will be a Sri Lankan tour consisting of three T20 and three one-day internationals. The T20I series will commence from July 27 to 30 in Pallekele with the new Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav, and the ODI series will start from August 3 to 7 in Colombo to prepare for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy on Sri Lankan grounds.
The list of both series’ squads is expected to be announced during the press conference; the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, will accompany Gambhir on the platform. Therefore, all attention will be on Gambhir as he plans to start a new paradigm of Indian cricket, with the series’ result dictating his success/failure as the head coach of the team.
