Gambhir’s reign begins: New era for Indian Cricket team

Newly appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, will be in focus when the team prepares for the first T20I match against Sri Lanka on Saturday. The dour and aggressive batsman with a big heart is ready to start his new innings, planning to continue the legacy and performance of his colleague Rahul Dravid.

Ramesh Powar receives a new teammate in the Indian coaching front, and Gambhir arrives with the tag of achieving the IPL title this year as a mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Not that he has directly been the head coach for any team, but his strategic thinking and the way he handles the players of the IPL franchisee teams have been appreciable.

Russel Arnold, the former Sri Lankan cricketer, has confidence in Gambhir and said that he will perform well because he is very good at managing people and teams and also at communicating.

Gautam Gambhir is a very intelligent gentleman. He understands people and teams, and whichever team he is associated with gets success.

However, Gambhir will have to face the major pressure of following in the footsteps of Rahane, who led the Indian team to the T20 World cup Cup and WTC Final and reached the finals of 50 over the World Cup in his last tour.

As for the players, Arnold has a strong feeling that Gambhir will be a different tactful from the previous one.

‘For sure, there will be a period when people will take little time to accept Gautam Gambhir, but I believe it is good because then anytime you get too used to a certain system, you are sort of shaken up, or even woken up to the reality that you still have to improve and you still have to deliver a lot more,’ he said.

The ex-Sri Lankan cricket player opined that better days are coming for India cricket, and Gambhir is the team captain.

Therefore, when used in opposite directions, Arnold thought that it might just bring excitement for everyone and keep everyone on their toes and stimulated as well.
