‘Hardik Pandya Avoided Facing Rashid Khan’: Irfan Pathan Critically Assesses MI Captain’s Tactical Errors in IPL 2024 Loss to GT

Pathan points out tactical errors in Hardik’s captaincy on Day 1.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya endured a difficult start to his captaincy stint, failing to chase down GT’s total in the opening match. The decision to leave his former franchise, Gujarat Titans, has not gone down well with the Ahmedabad crowd, which booed Hardik at the toss and throughout the game.

Veteran pacer Irfan Pathan dissected Hardik’s captaincy and felt he committed some errors with his tactical moves.

Pathan opined Hardik should have walked out to bat earlier instead of sending Tim David ahead against Rashid Khan’s over.

He stated an experienced Indian batter like Hardik sitting out made no logic, especially in a pressure chase situation.

Pathan also said bowling two overs of himself in the Powerplay was a mistake as Hardik would be better utilized down the order.

Despite the disappointment of opening day, Hardik Pandya is optimistic that Mumbai Indians can bounce back in their next game in Hyderabad. However, the team needs to identify mistakes and learn quickly.

With close finishes becoming the norm, small tactical errors are proving decisive. Hardik will look to display stronger leadership in the upcoming fixtures.
