Tensions seem to be brewing within the Mumbai Indians camp, according to veteran all-rounder Irfan Pathan. He has criticized ‘big personalities’ in the franchise for not supporting Hardik Pandya enough during his lean patch.
Pathan feels Pandya has been left to fight his battles alone despite being a senior member of the MI lineup. Though he remains an impact player, Hardik’s form has wavered this season with the bat.
In a scathing attack, Pathan said certain ‘big names’ in the team past their prime are more focused on preserving their positions than backing youngsters. He wants the senior pros to step up as leaders during difficult phases.
Meanwhile, Pandya is putting in the hard yards, switching roles but not getting sufficient help from teammates. The pressure is getting to him, feels Pathan.
Restoring his confidence will be difficult unless the MI think-tank and seniors offer guidance to their star all-rounder. With playoffs around the corner, the franchise needs Pandya back at his destructive best and firing on all cylinders.
