Harry Brook to lead England in Australia ODIs as Jos Buttler recovers

Brook was named England ODI captain for the Australia series.

Harry Brook will make his captaincy debut for England in the upcoming ODIs against Australia. Regular skipper Jos Buttler has been ruled out of white-ball cricket this summer due to a calf injury sustained in July.

All-rounder Liam Livingstone earned a recall to the ODI squad after impressing in the T20I series against Australia. Brook has prior leadership experience, having captained Yorkshire and Northern Superchargers.

The ECB also named him vice-captain during the Sri Lanka Tests which England won. Though rested for T20Is, Brook returns to the ODI setup as the new captain.

Buttler believes the talented Brook is ready for the role and encourages strategic thinking. Admitting frustration over a longer-than-expected recovery, Buttler eyes comeback in West Indies tour.

The five-match ODI series kicks off on September 22 at Trent Bridge. It remains to be seen if Brook can make a winning start to his reign as England’s limited-overs leader.
