India clinch series in Dharamsala thriller

India clinch thrilling series victory in Dharamsala

The fifth and final Test between India and England came down to the wire, but the hosts emerged triumphant. Chasing a challenging target of 378, England’s valiant attempt at pulling off a record chase fell just short as India took the series 4-1.

After posting 347 in their second innings, thanks to fighting knocks from Pant, Gill and captain Rohit, India had given themselves a healthy 132-run lead. Crafty batting from the lower order allowed them to extend that lead even further.

England began brightly in their chase. Opener Lees anchored the innings with a gutsy 44 while Crawley played fluently at the other end. But once the reliable Ashwin broke their 78-run stand, the visitors struggled against the turning ball. Debutant Siraj made an immediate impact with two strikes.

The pressure was evident on the final day’s wicket. Skipper Stokes battled hard with a brilliant 86 but lacked support. The required rate rose sharply as the tail failed to counter India’s spin wizardry.

Ashwin led the way with 6 wickets, ably supported by Jadeja and Gill. While their bold approach was delivered elsewhere, England’s tactics were found on the fourth inning minefield.

India retained their comeback ability and fine home record. Ushering eruptions from the energic crowd, the win capped a memorable series for Rohit and his men.
