India confident in navigating New York pitch, says batting coach

Indian batters equipped to tackle New York pitch challenges: Batting coach.

Team India batting coach Vikram Rathour has expressed confidence in the side’s ability to negotiate tricky pitches like the one in New York, which posed difficulties in their T20 World Cup opener against Ireland. Captain Rohit Sharma led from the front with a crucial half-century as India overhauled Ireland’s lowly 96 runs, losing just two wickets.

While acknowledging the pitch’s uneven nature that aided movement and bounce, Rathour said the team was prepared, having played practice matches there.

He highlighted India’s experience and skills in adapting to conditions. The coach believes the batting unit can perform on any surface, owing to its strengths developed over time.

Responding to criticism of the drop-in pitch aiding low scores in both T20s so far, Rathour termed it as just one of the challenges to tackle.

Former players have criticized the stadium surface on social media as ‘sub-standard’ and ‘poor,’ expressing concerns over players’ safety on such tracks when promoting the sport’s growth.

The venue will next host matches between Canada and Ireland and the marquee India-Pakistan clash, amplifying the focus on the pitch’s ability to produce competitive games.
